Tina
Tina is a young Chechen woman who was subjected to severe domestic violence from early childhood by her mother, father, brothers, and sisters. Physical and psychological abuse were normalized within the family. Her parents strictly controlled her every step and forbade hobbies.
Tina also had serious health issues. From childhood, she has fibrous dysplasia, and due to parental neglect her teeth began to deteriorate. Her parents were dissatisfied with having to take her to doctors and spend money on her treatment.
In early 2023, Tina attempted to escape Chechnya for the first time by bus to Vladikavkaz (the capital of North Ossetia, a North Caucasian republic in Russia). Her relatives removed her from the bus, beat her, and returned her home. For nearly six months, she pretended to be compliant while preparing a second escape attempt.
Tina managed to escape with the help of human rights defenders from the organization Marem and the NC SOS Crisis Group, who organized her evacuation. The NC SOS team provided legal assistance, including having her removed from wanted lists, ensured her safety, and supported her further migration. She is now abroad, where she works, studies, builds new friendships, and focuses on her health.
